Fundraiser - Communities for Healthy Food Program
Donation protected
Demand for emergency food assistance has dramatically increased during the coronavirus pandemic and food pantries are supporting more people than ever. In these tough times, my hope is that no one in my neighborhood goes hungry and that they have access to healthy food for themselves and their families. One of the ways I’ve chosen to give back is to raise funds for an amazing program in Harlem: The West Harlem Community Food Hub (as part of the West Harlem Group Assistance Communities for Healthy Food NYC initiative). Launched in 2014, the West Harlem Community Healthy Food Hub provides access to pantry items and healthy food for any resident in the Harlem community. They have contributed to broader efforts to improve quality of life for residents in Harlem, especially long-term residents who are struggling to stay in Harlem due to rapid gentrification. This program is dedicated to the health and success of youth, families, and seniors from The West Harlem Group Assistance housing portfolio as well as those who live, work, and shop in the larger West Harlem community.
The Healthy Food Hub serves over 2,000 families and individuals every month. It aims to improve access to healthy food, advance educational prospects related to health and nutrition, and offers a variety of support services including connections to health insurance, immigrant services, training for food sector jobs, and SNAP enrollment. The Food Hub offers healthy food resources for Harlem residents such as a “client choice” food pantry which includes fresh produce, cooking demonstrations, nutrition education workshops, and information on how to find neighborhood resources for eating healthy on a budget. This initiative truly understands that access to healthy food is vital to sustain communities and help them thrive.
Thanks so much for donating and supporting residents of Harlem to live longer and healthier lives! For more information about this great program, please visit http://whgainc.org/communities-for-healthy-food/
