Hello! My name is Daisy, I am currently doing my GCSE's and once I have finished my exams I will be travelling to Peru in South America with an organisation called Camps International where i will be staying in three different locations in Peru who need our help! Me and everyone on the trip will be helping local communities in many aspects from farming to education and living. No specific task can be confirmed as of now, however these are the following projects we are most likely to undertake during our expedition:
- We will work several initiatives to improve infrastructure and provide safe and productive learning environments for local children. In addition to the projects in the school, we are building a toilet for each house in the community to improve sanitation.
- Undertake a 4 to 5 day hike through the Andes Mountains along the Salkanay Trek to Machu Pichu
- Getting our hands dirty with plastering, painting and low-level construction alongside local skilled tradespeople.
- Immerse ourselves in local Peruvian culture when not getting stuck into projects, learning about traditional local life such as cooking and traditional dancing.
- Visiting schools giving local children lessons and taking part in fun activities with them.
- Going on smaller treks in the hills.
- we will also be helping community farmers, planting essential crops and working on greenhouses to prevent malnourishment in small villages'. We also may have the chance to worm livestock too!
I am incredibly proud and grateful to have the most amazing opportunity to work for such a nice collective here at the Cross Scythes and to be surrounded by their support- and a sponsorship!
I have recently climbed Snowdon (1085m) and plan to further complete the three peaks- Ben Nevis (1345m) and Scaffel Pike (978m) to prepare for the climb to Machu Pichu, where the highest point is 4,600m or 15,092ft.
I am so exited for this expedition because I have a love of trying new things, food and exploring. I think this trip, while being beneficial for Peruvian communities it will also greatly improved many of my life skills, confidence, Spanish (which I am studying for GCSE), teamwork skills, responsibility and independence.
My biggest dream has always been to be a veterinarian since I can remember and I have previously completed my year 10 work experience in a vets which is great for my CV. This trip will be such an amazing experience for me and will also greatly boost my CV so i can go on to live my dreams!
I have previously done a monthly Dronfield Eye magazine round to help fund my trip. I am now currently working here at The Cross Scythes to pay toward my expedition (with some help from my parents too) would you help me on my final push toward my goal? any donations are so gratefully appreciated and thank you so much for taking the time to read this!
Many thanks, Daisy
