Did you know that underwear are the top holiday item requested at homeless shelters?
We may take the comfort of our bums for granted, but for many this is simply not an option. Imagine an article as simple as a pair of underwear being something you are not sure you will have, or have for your child to wear tomorrow.
This campaign is about funding undies for the homeless.
This is my fourth campaign over the last few years for the holiday underwear drive. I am asking you to dig deep into the pockets of your jeans, backpacks, skorts and overalls and help me buy $1000+ worth of underwear for the folx- youth and adult- who may otherwise go without.
What happens when you donate?
- I go shopping! I typically go to discount stores where I can buy quality items at the lowest possible prices, stretching your dollar and being a good steward of your donations. Only brand new underwear are purchased.
- I buy sizes 2t and up for children, and all adult sizes from XS to plus size. I buy all colors, mostly cotton, in brief, short, boxer, with and without front flaps, so that folx can hopefully pick out whatever fits their bodies best.
- I donate all of these items before Christmas to a local shelter that services families in Durham, NC.
- If late donations come in, I also buy for a men’s shelter in Raleigh, NC.
- Last time when I donated around 900 pairs, I was told it would help cover residents for about 3 months of the year…that’s something to keep in mind when you think of the scope of need.
