Funding for pedestrian safety in Thornleigh NSW
Donation protected
Greetings. Our group is concerned about pedestrian safety group in East Thornleigh and other parts of Hornsby Shire.
Pedestrians include young and old people, school children, handicapped persons and people on wheelchairs.
We have repeatedly requested Hornsby Shire Council and the NSW Government to provide safety improvements at the Thornleigh Footbridge and at Railway Parade adjacent to Thornleigh Station.
The steps at the the footbridge are dangerously steep and do not comply with current safety standards. Disability access to Thornleigh Station is also difficult and challenging. We have prepared sketches showing how the steps can be cost-effectively modified and an elevated walkway can be constructed across the top of Railway Parade to link the footbridge with the existing railway platform bridge at Thornleigh Station.

However, the NSW Government Council and Hornsby Shire Council have refused to act. Council says that the NSW Government is responsible for fixing safety problems.
We are now seeking funds to engage a lawyer to assist us in discussions as we challenge the NSW State Government and Hornsby Council to fix problems and to provide proper funding for pedestrian safety.

We want Council to use a greater percentage of the large amount of "Development Contributions" that it receives from construction of high-rise buildings in Thornleigh for protecting children, shoppers and other pedestrians from being struck by motor vehicles in Railway Parade and other local roads.
We are grateful for any financial support that you may be able to provide for this worthy cause.
