Die private Initiative „DAMOS“ (zu Deutsch „wir geben“) ist ein dominikanisch-deutsches Projekt mit dem Ziel, Lebensmittelspenden für Menschen in La Romana in der Dominikanischen Republik zu organisieren, die besonders von den Maßnahmen zur Bekämpfung von Covid-19 betroffen sind. Dafür brauchen wir deine Unterstützung! Deine Spende geht in Form von Lebensmittelpaketen zu 100% an Familien, Alleinerziehende, Kinder, Senioren und Menschen mit Handicap.
Hintergrund
Seit dem 19. März 2020 gelten in der gesamten Dominikanische Republik strenge Maßnahmen, um die Ausbreitung des Coronavirus' einzudämmen, wie etwa die Schließung aller Geschäfte (außer Lebensmittelhändler) und eine Ausgangssperre von 17:00-06:00 Uhr. Dies führt dazu, dass die Einkommensmöglichkeiten vieler Menschen wesentlich geringer ausfallen oder sogar ganz versiegen. Schon vor dem Ausbruch der Pandemie lebte mindestens jede 5. Person in Armut (Quelle: https://data.worldbank.org/country/dominican-republic, 03. 05. 2020) und die tägliche Ernährung stand in direktem Zusammenhang mit täglichem Verdienst.
Die Regierung des Landes hat zwei Hilfsprogramme aufgelegt, die insgesamt 8 der 11 Millionen Einwohner des Landes erreichen und Bedürftige mit ca. 85€ (#Quédateencasa) bzw. Angestellte mit ca. 160€ (FASE) pro Monat und Haushalt versorgen sollen. Die Probleme in der Ausführung sind vielfältig - viele der Bedürftigen sind nicht in den entsprechenden Systemen erfasst, die Überweisung des Geldes verzögert sich um Wochen und mehr als 800.000 der für FASE qualifizierten Angestellten wurden entlassen (Quelle: www.listindiario.com, 25. 04. 2020), sodass ihnen die entsprechenden Zahlungen nicht zustehen. Die Lebensmittelpreise sind mit dem deutschen Niveau vergleichbar. Nach anderthalb Monaten des Stillstands sind in vielen Haushalten auch die letzten Reserven aufgebraucht und die Versorgungssituation in den Familien wird zunehmend schwieriger.
Die Initiative
Das Organisationsteam von "DAMOS" besteht aus vier Dominikanern und drei Deutschen. Als weltwärts-Freiwillige waren Anna Laschinger, Mattea Klostermann, Mitja Kara und Hannah Kurek in verschiedenen Projekten in La Romana tätig und haben während ihres 11-monatigen Aufenthaltes nicht nur die Stadt und die dortigen Lebensverhältnisse, sondern auch Julio Santiago, José Berroa, Betzaleer Encarnación und Erick Pulmuceno kennengelernt. Aufgrund der aktuellen Pandemie und den weitreichenden Folgen haben sie gemeinsam beschlossen, die Initiative "DAMOS" ins Leben zu rufen und Lebensmittelspenden an Haushalte zu verteilen, die besonders unter den Covid-19-Maßnahmen leiden. Mithilfe von Spendengeldern sollen Grundnahrungsmittel wie Reis, Öl, Eier und Kochbananen gekauft, rationiert und anschließend an nach bestimmten Kriterien ausgewählte Haushalte verteilt werden. Für die Arbeit vor Ort inklusive der Verteilung der Lebensmittel und Dokumentation des Projektes sind Julio, José, Betzaleer und Erick verantwortlich, während Anna, Mattea, Mitja und Hannah für die Werbung der Spendengelder zuständig sind. The private initiative "DAMOS" (English: "we give") is a dominican-german project aiming to provide food donations to people in La Romana, Dominican Republic who are especially affected by the measures taken to fight the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. To reach our goal we need your help! A 100% of your donation will be passed on through food packages to families, single parents, children, elderly and handicapped people.
Background
Since March 19 2020 strict measures have been established to contain the spread of the corona virus in the entire Dominican Republic, such as the shutdown of all stores with the exception of food suppliers and a total lockdown between 5 pm and 6 am. For that reason the sources of income of many are diminished or eliminated all together. Even before the pandemic some 22% of the population was living in poverty (source: https://data.worldbank.org/country/dominican-republic, May 03 2020) and daily nourishment was directly related to daily income.
The government has created two aid programs which are supposed to benefit 8 of the 11 million Dominican citizens and supply the most vulnerable with about 95 USD (#Quédateencasa) and employees with about 170 USD (FASE) per month and household. Various problems are impeding an effective implementation - many in need are not registered in the system, transactions of the money are delayed for weeks and more than 800,000 employees qualifying for FASE have been laid of (source: www.listindiario.com, April 25 2020) depriving them of any financial support from the government. Food prices are comparable to German standards. After one and half months of standstill many households have exhausted even their last financial reserves and acquiring food supplies proves increasingly difficult.
The Initiative
The "DAMOS" team consists of four Dominicans and three Germans. As volunteers for the "weltwärts"-program, organized and funded largely by the German government, Anna Laschinger, Mattea Klostermann, Mitja Kara and Hannah Kurek worked in different projects in La Romana. During their 11-months stay they did not only get to know the city and the living conditions but also became friends with Julio Santiago, José Berroa, Betzaleer Encarnación and Erick Pulmuceno. Due to the current pandemic and the far reaching consequences they have initiated "DAMOS" together, aiming to supply food donations to the households most affected by the measures against Covid-19. With the help of financial donations their goal is to buy staple foods such as rice, oil, eggs and plantains and distribute them to selected households meeting certain criteria. Julio, José, Betzaleer and Erick are responsible for working on the ground including the distribution of food and documentation of the project while Anna, Mattea, Mitja and Hannah are focusing on raising donations. La iniciativa privada de "DAMOS" es un proyecto dominico-alemán con la meta de organizar donaciones de alimentos para las personas más afectadas por las medidas en contra del Covid-19 en La Romana (República Dominicana). Para lograrlo necesitamos tu ayuda! Un 100% de tu donación llegará mediante paquetes de comida a familias, madres o padres solterxs, niñxs, mayores y personas descapacitadas.

Desde el 19 de Marzo 2020 medidas restrictivas han sido establecidas para contener la extensión del corona virus en el país entero, como la cierre de todas las tiendas con excepción de ventas de alimentos y un toque de queda entre las 5 de la tarde y las 6 de mañana. Por esa razón las fuentes de ingreso de muchos Dominicanos se han diminuido o eliminado por completo. Hasta antes de la pandemia un 22% de la población estaba viviendo en pobreza (fuente: https://data.worldbank.org/country/dominican-republic, 03 de Mayo 2020) y la alimentación diaria estaba relacionada directamente con el ingreso diario.
El gobierno ha creado dos programas de ayuda que deben de beneficiar 8 de las 11 millones ciudadanos y apoyar a los más necesitados con aproximadamente 5000 DOP (#Quédateencasa) y a los empleadores con aproximadamente 9000 DOP (FASE) mensual en cada hogar. Varios problemas impiden la implementación del programa - mucha gente no está registrado en los sistemas, las transacciones del dinero están retrasadas por semanas y más que 800,000 empleadores elegibles para el FASE han sido suspendidos (fuente: www.listindiario.com, 25 de Abril 2020), dejándoles sin ningún apoyo financiero. Los precios de alimentos están comparables con el nivel alemán. Después de un mes y medio de detención las últimas reservas se están acabando en muchos hogares y suplir alimentos resulta cada vez más difícil.
La iniciativa
El equipo de "DAMOS" consiste de cuatro Dominicanos y tres Alemanas. Mientras hacían un servicio voluntario por medio de "weltwärts", un programa apoyado por el gobierno alemán, Anna Laschinger, Mattea Klostermann, Mitja Kara y Hannah Kurek trabajaban y vivían en proyectos diferentes en La Romana y así conocían a la ciudad, a las condiciones de vida y también Julio Santiago, José Berroa, Betzaleer Encarnación y Erick Pulmuceno. Por la pandemia actual ellos han decidido juntos iniciar el proyecto de "DAMOS" para poder suplir donaciones de alimentos a los hogares más afectados por las medidas en contra del Covid-19. Julio, José, Betzaleer y Erick son responsables para la mayor parte del trabajo local, incluyendo la distribución de alimentos y la documentación del proyecto.
