On April 5, 2023, the conscientious custodial staff at St. Olaf College identified and reported suspicious items in the trash. The report to St. Olaf’s public safety department directly resulted in the disruption of an apparent planned act of mass violence on campus and the apprehension of the perpetrator. This fund is being established to thank the heroic custodian specifically and the custodial staff generally. As the identity of the custodian is presently confidential, the school’s general counsel, Carl Lehmann, has agreed to receive and distribute the donated funds to the appropriate persons on campus. We are deeply grateful for the care and courage the custodial staff demonstrated under these difficult circumstances.
