Fund the RAIN Center & water Alabama grassroots!

Tax deductible
Help RAIN create a youth-led community space in Gadsden, Alabama, and water grassroots movements in the rural South!!!

WHO WE ARE
Race Against Injustice Now (RAIN) is a collective of local young people who came together during the summer 2020 Marches for Black Lives. Since then we have been working together to fight injustice in our Alabama hometown by organizing mutual aid projects, hosting nonviolent protests, creating community space for BIPOC youth.

OUR GOAL
We are requesting community support for a building that will host our main programs Project Speak Out (BIPOC youth activism and leadership) and the Gadsden Free Store (free clothes, food, and hygiene items no questions asked) as well as other local grassroots organizations. Funds will go towards paying our monthly rent and utilities for this building, and any extra will go towards general program expenses--such as supplies for Project Speak Out meetings or purchasing hygiene items for the Free Store. All donations will be managed by our fiscal sponsor Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama and are tax deductible!!!

OUR CHALLENGE
Black, brown, LGBTQ, poor, and homeless people in Southern small towns deserve safety and community. Unfortunately, however, harmful state and local policies often target these groups, and governmental organizations and nonprofits often exclude them from public assistance. RAIN is a group of youth who are stepping up to address this issue by providing resources to fellow marginalized people and organizing for a just and inclusive community. Grants for the work we do are sparse, though we have and continue to seek grant funding. Still we know our community has all the power to make this vision our reality!

OUR IMPACT
- Weekly community space for 40+ BIPOC youth
- 3 pop up free stores with over 1500 pieces of clothing given to the community
- $400 worth of blessing bags passed out to local homeless
- 300 pounds of food and 200 toys distributed during our Christmas community event
- $800 worth of school supplies passed out at our Back to School carnival
- 30+ youth mobilized to protest gun violence after the death of Allen Merrick, a Gadsden City High alumni and UAB football player
- Biweekly marches to protest police brutality, confederate symbols, mass incarceration, and community violence
- 2 representatives on the City Council’s Human Rights Advisory Subcommittee
- Community action plan with specific reform policies presented to City Council, County Commission, local police department, and Sheriff’s department
- All of this in just 9 months without a permanent location

This space will allow us to massively increase our ability to work with BIPOC, LGBTQ, poor, and homeless people in our home community on a DAILY BASIS instead of MONTHLY or WEEKLY. Thank you for your support!
