Help the LMH Chamber Choir Sing in Paris!
Donation protected
The Lady Margaret Hall Chamber Choir are planning their most exciting and ambitious international tour yet - and we need your help to get there.
The LMH Choir is non-auditioned, open to all students regardless of background, and is committed to making high-level choral music accessible, not exclusive.
Many of our members had never sung in a choir before university, let alone received any formal musical training. For many, including some of our paid choral scholars, this choir has been their first experience of structured, high-quality music-making, and it’s been transformative.
We’re incredibly grateful to have generous support from the College, but touring at this scale comes with costs that go beyond what college funding can cover. Because we are committed to access, we don’t charge participation fees or membership dues, meaning we rely on the generosity of supporters like you to help make our biggest projects happen.
This term, we are preparing for a landmark tour to Paris, with performances at extraordinary venues like La Madeleine and St Eustache - performance spaces typically reserved for professional or audition-only groups. With your support, we can show that excellence in music doesn’t require exclusivity.
Why This Cause Is Important
Choral music has long been a hallmark of Oxford’s cultural life, but, for too many students, it’s something they can only watch from the sidelines, having never had access to music lessons, choirs, or performance opportunities growing up.
We want to change that narrative.
Our vision is to open the doors of the Oxford choral scene wider, so that talent, curiosity, and passion - rather than privilege or prior training - determine who gets to participate. The LMH Choir aims to make choral music a space of belonging and discovery, especially for those who might otherwise never have found their way into it.
The LMH Choir's recent performances of major choral works with orchestra, including Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Nelson Mass, highlights the work being done by the choir to make choral music at the highest level - including performing some of the greatest pieces of music ever written - open to everyone.
Our vision is to allow the choir's members to experience Oxford choral tradition at its fullest, and to offer opportunities for travel and performance traditionally reserved only for elite and exclusive choirs. Touring is not just about performing - it’s about building community, confidence, and cultural exchange. And for our choir to remain genuinely open to all, we need support to ensure that no singer is excluded because of cost.
Your donation will help us:
* Cover essential tour costs (travel, venue hire, accommodation)
* Support free and assisted places, so everyone can afford to go
* Keep participation affordable and inclusive
* Share our message - that choral music can and should be for everyone - with international audiences
Whether you're an LMH alum, a music lover, or simply someone who believes in equal access to the arts - we’re so grateful for your support.
Donate today, and help us bring our voices - and our message - to Paris.
