Fund Summer Camp for Jake and Jamar!

Help us fund summer basketball camp for Jake and Jamar!

This spring, two boys in our community were attacked, just for living in the skin they live in. One attack was made in a public forum on social media for all their peers (and more) to see. They both were unprovoked and traumatic. The words used invoke a horrific violent history that should never be directed at any person, let alone children.

For freshmen and sophomores in high school, the last 15 months have been an incredible load to bear. Virtual schooling for the end of middle and introduction to high school, COVID stay at home orders, being split apart from friends as they funnel to different high schools, distanced, masked, and unable to find normal. Our entire world has had eyes on our kids, seeing how this unparalleled time has impacted them all. We know that mental health, learning, and social development have been difficult for so many of them. On top of all of this, Jake and Jamar have now also been thrust into the spotlight of social media, town conversation, and international news, all showcasing their trauma. Any reasonable adult would be heavily weighed down by these experiences, and these boys are kids. It is essential that they have positive experiences this summer that connects them in positive ways with other kids.

Summer is just days away and Jake and Jamar deserve the opportunity to find some fun and joy over these next two months. They deserve an opportunity to be in a space that they love, seen for who they are and what they can do, moving their bodies and growing in their game. We have an opportunity as a community to help make this a reality!

Both boys are in love with basketball and there are incredible camps happening at the universities in our town. Great camps with talented coaches also come with big tuition. One week at Sacred Heart Nike Basketball Camp for two boys is $1,000. We would like to send them to as many weeks as possible.
