Fund Repairs for Vandalized Cars of Mental Health Workers
Hello, my name is Kelsey. I am a psychiatric technician at Huntsman Mental Health Institute (formerly UNI), and I truly appreciate you taking the time to read our story. Myself and 50+ employees, patients, and students were affected by an angry and violent individual who came to vandalize cars in our parking lot. They smashed windows, windshields, and side mirrors of vehicles that were parked in our front lot on September 9th, 2024. Read the KSL article here.
Since then, I have created a detailed list of all those that were affected by it and what their individual costs would be. Some of our staff have elected to fix their cars with their own money, but a lot of staff and patients are unable to afford fixing their cars. All donations will go toward reimbursing repairs or providing the funds necessary to each person affected so that they can get their car fixed.
Working in healthcare means giving to the community, and I am so unbelievably grateful that the community wants to give back. Thank you for any amount that you are willing to contribute! If you are unable to contribute money at this time, please share our goal with friends and family; it would mean the world as well.
Among those affected are:
- 6 Patients and Visitors
- 7 Psychiatric Nurses
- 1 Crisis Worker
- 1 Youth Psychologist
- 3 Hospital Housekeepers
- 11 staff in our Assessment and Receiving Center
- 2 Physician Assistant Students
- 18 Psychiatric Technicians
And to our wonderful, amazing, and hardworking staff: your work does not go unappreciated. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get to know you and learn from you. I am so lucky and I am honored to give back in this way. Thank you for helping create the network to get this aid out; I could not have done it without your help!
10/23 UPDATE: For financial transparency the funds will be distributed to the aforementioned recipients either by venmo or cash (depending on their preference). I am partnering with the other two related fundraisers (the email chain sent in the receiving center by Anne S. as well as the OneU Cares fund) to distribute funds either in their entirety based on individual needs or percentage based equitable amounts if we do not meet our entire needs goal. The goal amount was calculated based on the sum of individual damage costs to each vehicle. In short, each person will receive the exact amount they are out to fix their car. Fund distribution will begin either when our goal is met or the beginning of December.
11/7 UPDATE: I have reduced the goal to $10,000 as a few more people have elected that they do not need to receive funds from our fundraiser.
