Hi, I'm Wade. I run the Move Weight Foundation, a federally recognized 501(c)(3), and this campaign funds public records access in Houston.

This work started in Miami, Oklahoma, when I tried to find out how my own city was operating and learned what it costs an ordinary person just to ask. So I built a way for people to ask without putting their name on anything.

Houston is now one of fourteen chapters. Here is what already exists at houston.exposetexas.org, before a dollar is raised: 691 public meetings indexed from the City's own portal, every one of them with its video linked, refreshed automatically every week.

Houston is the largest public body in Texas, and that makes one particular record worth watching. Under the Public Information Act, a body that wants to withhold something must ask the Attorney General within ten business days and state its reasoning. Those requests, and the rulings that answer them, are a public map of what the largest city in the state would prefer you not read.

There is a gap I will name plainly: we have Houston's meeting video but not yet its agenda documents. Closing that gap is what this campaign pays for, and requests cost money. Cities bill per page, per hour of staff time, per certified stamp, and you do not learn the price until after you ask.

Every dollar goes to records fees. The bill arrives, we pay it, and what comes back is published whole and unredacted - linked to the city's own copy so you can check us. I file in the Foundation's name so nobody in Houston has to attach their own name to a request.
