Fund our community veg garden
We are excited to share our vision for transforming our garden space at the Jewish Vegan Society into a vibrant, community-driven food-growing and gardening hub.
Our goal is to create a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can share skills and learn how to grow their own vegetables. We already have a dedicated group of volunteers eager to get started. Many people are excited about the opportunity to get involved, especially those who don’t have access to outdoor space of their own. We have already hosted a seed sowing session, our seedlings are starting to mature and our next step is to plant them in our garden.
Some quotes from our attendees: 'I found it calming and therapeutic, a much needed change from this crazy world'.
'I learnt so much, also therapeutic - takes away all the troubles'.
Why This Project Matters:
Our garden will not only provide food but will serve as a springboard for other initiatives, such as sustainability workshops and well-being sessions. We are invested in this as an going long-tern project and in the future, we aim to offer:
- Hands-on learning experiences about growing vegetables, nurturing plants, and the seed-to-table journey.
- Sustainability education, including upcycling, recycling, and reducing food waste.
- Well-being programs that promote better mental health through outdoor activities and community connection.
We already have a raised bed and some basic gardening tools, but we need to raise a further £1000 to purchase essential materials that will make this project sustainable long-term. With your help, we can buy compost, a small greenhouse, and other necessary supplies.
How You Can Help
- Financial Donations: Every penny will go toward making our garden space more productive and inclusive.
- Item Donations: If you have gardening supplies you’d like to contribute, we would greatly appreciate them.
Why This Garden Will Benefit Everyone:
- Build Community: This garden will be a welcoming space for people to connect, especially during the warmer months.
- Support Mental Health: Being in nature has been proven to improve mental health, and we want to make it accessible to everyone in our community, including those with mental health challenges.
- Promote Sustainable Living: By growing our own food, we inspire a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility.
- Involve Families: We want to offer learning opportunities for children and adults alike, nurturing a love for gardening and healthy living.
Who Will Benefit:
- Local residents of all backgrounds: Our space is inclusive, accessible, and open to everyone.
- Children and families: A place for kids to learn about nature and food.
- Adults with mental health challenges: Gardening can provide healing and help combat isolation.
We also have a fully equipped kitchen and learning space, where we run cooking classes and host social events. It’s our hope that the vegetables we grow in our garden will be used in these programs, helping us teach sustainable, healthy eating.
Together, we can create a lasting impact on our community.
Your support will help us turn this vision into a reality. Thank you for being a part of this exciting journey!
