On May 26th, 2024, my beautiful 16-year-old child, Matthew, attempted suicide. Matthew suffers from serious depression and debilitating anxiety. Recently, in a desperate moment, Matthew reached out to a friend, confessing the pain and anguish he felt socially, thinking his friend could help. Instead, the friend he thought he could confide in, called him an attention seeker and ostracized him. Matthew was devastated. And in response, took more than 60 pills of propranolol. He had access to this medication as he was prescribed this for severe anxiety. Matthew was taken to the ER, where it confirmed he was overdosing. He suffered seizures and flat lined twice. When finally, he was stable, it was hours before he could put words together to speak.
Matthew was taken in an ambulance to the Pediatric ICU with an ICU nurse in the ambulance. He remained there for a few days before being then taken to a local psychiatric hospital. I am beyond worried for Matthew's safety and I know I can't keep him safe at our home from harming himself. My heart is broken. The only option we can even hope that can help is an intensive outpatient program, that our insurance sadly does not cover. The program is $450 a day. Please consider helping Matthew have a chance at life! This beautiful soul needs the support of our community. Thank you for your consideration.
Matthew’s mom,
Nicole
