Since last September, I have received $6,233.94 (after taxes) from everyone who supported my GoFundMe. It honestly took me a long time to build up the courage to create a fundraiser for myself. Asking for help is never easy, but finishing my final year at NYU meant everything to me, and I knew I couldn’t give up.

Because of your support, I was able to continue my program despite serious financial challenges. And that decision changed everything.

Over the past six months, I received an internship with a company that is now planning to sponsor me for an H1B visa. This opportunity would not have been possible if I had stepped away from my program. Your encouragement, generosity, and belief in me created a chain reaction that opened doors I once thought were out of reach. I truly would not be here without you.

Today, I’m in a much more stable place. My internship and my on-campus job are helping me cover my rent and basic living expenses. I am deeply grateful for that.

However, I still need help covering my remaining tuition. For this semester, my current balance is $8,279.50, and my final summer semester will be $8,533. I am so close to the finish line.

My Journey at NYU and Why I Need Your Help

Hi, I’m Kimberly Gemarino, and I’m working on my Master’s in Project Management at NYU.

I came to the U.S. from the Philippines in 2018 with nothing but a dream of building a better life through education. NYU has been everything I hoped for, but right now, I’m struggling to stay.

One of my main sources of funding for my program was my on-campus job, but I recently lost it due to budget cuts. On top of that, my student loan only covered half of my tuition. As an international student, I can’t work off-campus or qualify for federal aid. If I can’t pay for school, I risk losing my degree, my visa, and the life I’ve worked so hard to build here.

My family has always been supportive of me completing this degree, but as an international student, I have to carry this responsibility on my own strength. That’s why I’m doing everything I can—applying for scholarships, looking for on-campus opportunities, and seeking every resource possible.
