Dear reader, my name is Kelsey Nelson. I am a 3rd year medical student at AAIMs. I will be attending clinical rotations soon and I am seeking your assistance in getting me started. Here are a few reasons why I would be a suitable candidate for your investing. Since the age of 12, I have been active in my community, wherever it is needed. I clean the beaches twice yearly, I help in replanting trees, collecting and recycling waste materials through the DESSO Foundation, and with the utmost humility I aid in giving back, by delivering care packages before, during and after both hurricane Beryl as well as Mellisa. However before tragedy struck my community, my springs often included protestorial walks, from ‘Breast cancer’ to ‘Stop Domestic Abuse’ walks.
My summers, educating the youths in my community on the importance of team building, as well as guiding them in creating ceramics, paper mache and encouraging them to explore all other forms of art, all of these tasks are practiced at the Treasure Beach Summer Camp, yearly. The aim is to push youths to be the best versions of themselves whilst accomplishing a variety of skills, rather than be on the roads engaging in negative activities or home brain rotting by video games and social media. The opportunities are endless. The rest of the year involves fund raising by planning a Lemonade sale event at atleast two locations in Treasure Beach, where we would purchase supplies for the Black River Pediatric Ward. An idea I had created when I was discharged from the hospital, inspired by the young voices I heard, screaming and crying to go home, a feeling that I understood with a heavy heart, the thought of wanting to go home, but then not possible due to unresolved illnesses.
At the age of 13 I was diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia. I didn't quite understand the condition at the time, however what I understood was that every Friday for about 3 months I had to be transported from one parish to the next to be seen by a specialist, along with over 60 patients for that day alone. How shocking it was realizing that my condition is in no way shape or form rare yet the specialists are limited. It was from that day that I decided to be an addition to that field in hopes of providing help for whomever requires it. Therefore I emerged myself in as much humanitarian work that was available, whether it be volunteering my time at the medical camps through AAIMs for social events like Calabash(Jacksprat ) to dispensing medication at various communities within St. Elizabeth, through the HANDS Organization, all while maintaining a healthy school ethic so that I may one day work professionally in my community and do more. I help, not to seek anything in return, because the positive results of my labor have enriched my heart enough. Therefore i come asking for help, so that i may continue to help others.
