After being married almost 54 years my husband and best friend, Sandy, was diagnosed with cancer last December, and although he was a fit strong man with an insatiable zest for life, died on the 11th April.

I have decided to walk the 174 mile Coastal Pilgrim Camino from Porto to Santiago de Compostela at the end of August and would like to dedicate this walk in honour and remembrance of Sandy and also hopefully raise some money for a very worthwhile cause, Cancer Research UK.

Cancer is a wicked disease and 1 in 2 of us will develop cancer in our lifetime, but hopefully in the future, and only with the help of research, others with the same diagnosis as Sandy may have more precious months of life, or even a cure.

I know times are hard and money is scarce but any donation whatsoever, be it large or small, will make a difference.
