Hello friends and family!! This go fund me is in hopes to support my dear friend, Cairn. They are traveling to DC to the Supreme Court to do work on behalf of LGBTQ+ community, in particular queer youth. I feel like in a wild, scary, unpredictable world that we are in right now, it's so important to put our energy, time, wallets, towards things and people doing GOOD, advocating for the right things on behalf of folks with a smaller voice.

It's a big deal what Cairn has been selected to do and I'd like to call on my community of family, friends and peers to help them with the travel expenses of flights, hotels and food while they travel to DC to do work on behalf of equality and ALL of us. Any amount you could give would be super helpful as they are going on their own dime. I asked Cairn to summarize what they'll be doing in DC and why....please read <3

"Hello, My name is Cairn, my pronouns are They/Them and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. An amicus brief is a legal document submitted to the court by an individual or organization that provides the court with additional information and expertise that may help it understand the implications of a a potential decision. Recently, Advocates for Trans Equality filed an amicus brief in a Supreme Court case. In the case, the Court is being asked to strike down a Colorado law prohibiting licensed mental health practitioners from using conversion therapy practices with minor patients. It was an honor to be part of the brief as both a conversion therapy survivor, and as a psychotherapist who supports others in their healing.

To demonstrate the impact of discredited and dangerous conversion practices, I shared my story, alongside other conversion therapy survivors, represented by A4TE. I wanted to show that conversion practices have lasting impacts on survivors and only harm youth and families.

I urge SCOTUS to uphold the law and affirm protections for LGBTQ+ youth. Mental health care should be safe and clinically proven, not a tool to control and punish LGBTQ+ youth for being who they are.

Oral arguments for this case is scheduled for October 7th, and I will be traveling to DC to be there. My friend offered to set up a way for other friends and allies to support the expense of my travel (flight, lodging, etc.) and this effort to advocate on behalf of LBGTQ+ youth and community.
