Help fund an Ohio Historical Marker for Ray Brown

Don protégé
Raymond "Ray" Brown brought a marvelous skillset to the pitching mound during his 18 years in the Negro Leagues. In 1938, the Pittsburgh Courier listed Brown as "one of five Negro League stars who could be certain major leaguers if allowed to play." While playing 14 seasons for the legendary Homestead Grays, Brown led the team to eight pennants in a nine-year span (1937-1945). He threw a one-hitter in the 1944 Negro League World Series en route to a second consecutive championship. Brown was posthumously elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.

Despite these accolades, Brown is not memorialized in any in his hometown of Alger, Ohio. The History Program at Ohio Northern University has teamed with the Village of Alger to remedy this glaring lack of recognition. This fundraiser intends to pay for an Ohio Historical Marker, to be placed at the local baseball field in Alger. This is the first step in renaming Alger Village Park to the Ray Brown Memorial Ball Field

We appreciate any donation—whatever the size—that contributes to this commemorative effort. Thank you very much.
