I’ve lived in Caroline Springs for years and, like many locals, I’ve been watching two important infrastructure projects drag on with little explanation:
The upgrade to the Rockbank Middle Road and Caroline Springs Boulevard intersection, and
The long-awaited signalised pedestrian crossing between College Street and Lake Street.
We’ve heard different stories — that the delays are due to Powercor, approvals, or technical issues — but there’s been no clear or consistent communication from Melton City Council. That’s why I submitted a Freedom of Information (FOI) request: to get to the bottom of what’s really happening, how decisions have been made, and whether our public funds are being used responsibly.
But now the Council has issued a $587.90 processing fee — a serious financial barrier for me as a full-time student working part-time. A deposit is required which is 50% of the charge which is $293.95
This FOI request isn’t just for me — it’s about securing transparency for our whole community. These projects impact safety, traffic, public confidence, and responsible budgeting. By helping fund this request, you’re supporting a broader effort for honest answers, better oversight, and public accountability in our local government.
Even a small contribution makes a difference. Any amount helps.
Thank you for standing with me in the pursuit of transparency and fairness.
Thank you,
Ashwin Naidu
