Fund Adoptive Mom's Parental Leave
Donation protected
Join us in supporting Sara, who recently became a first-time mom to her beautiful adopted daughter Davy, born March 7th! Sara becomes a mom in the shadow of discriminatory family leave policies, which are unacceptable and sadly too common in our nation. Specifically, Sara has neither a maternity leave benefit nor access to the short-term disability coverage afforded to those who physically give birth. Under her employer’s current policy, Sara can only use her Combined Time Off (CTO), which she dutifully saved over the past two years since applying to become an adoptive parent. As a result, she now takes on the burden of 8+ weeks of unpaid time off, as well as the out-of-pocket expenses for medical insurance for both herself and her newborn. While she has been advocating with her employer for nearly two years for parental leave to apply to adoptive families, any potential changes to system policies will not take place in time to assist her. Needless to say, Sara has immense and passionate support from employees throughout the hospital system who recognize the current inequity. Maintaining the status quo is not an option, and her colleagues are devoted to carrying the torch and ensuring timely action in a just and family-centered direction.
Help make a statement for change and show Sara and baby Davy that they have a big, wide, loving family who will support and carry them far beyond what the broken system currently allows. Let's help put her mind at ease so she can focus 100% of her energy on loving her baby girl, weathering the tides of those newborn days, and supporting Davey’s healthy attachment and development in this crucial stage.
