Hi we are Patrick & Chrissy Mountford we are reaching out on behalf of our incredible nephew Tommy Morris. He has faced many challenges in his life due to cerebral palsy, but he has never let that define him. Here is his story of love and perseverance.
My name is Layla Morris, and I would like to tell you about my little brother, Tommy. He’s the guy who says hello to everyone, he doesn’t have to know you; he’s the guy that can light up a room with his contagious smile; he’s the guy that’s everyone’s friend!
For those who don’t already know Tommy, he was born with a congenital heart defect. He was required to have open heart surgery at three months old. During this surgery there was a lack of oxygen to Tommy’s brain, and he developed Cerebral Palsy. This disorder affects body movement, muscle coordination, or posture; making Tommy wheelchair bound since he was a toddler. Tommy is a very happy and healthy guy, who is now 42 years old!
Eight months ago, Tommy and our family suffered a tragic loss; we lost Debbie, our mom unexpectedly at the age of 63. Debbie was Tommy’s main caregiver, he depended on her for pretty much everything. Not only was she his mom and caregiver, but she was also his best friend. Debbie made sure Tommy knew the love of family and friends and experienced everything life had to offer.
In October 2021 a benefit was held to help raise money for Debbie to purchase a handicap accessible van for Tommy. Although the money was raised it wasn’t enough to purchase a new van, but it was enough for a down payment. In 2022 Tommy’s mom finally found what she needed for her boy, a 2021 Toyota Sienna van. This van helps Tommy get to where he needs to go, whether it’s a doctor’s appointment in Cleveland, a sporting event, a night out or a family gathering.
Tommy’s family is currently working to help him, and his sister keep the van his mother worked so hard to get. Family and friends are holding the 2nd Annual Tommy Morris Benefit Dinner. All proceeds will go to re-finance and transfer the van to Tommy & Layla.
You can help by donating your time, products, Chinese auction baskets or monetary donations. Your donation will impact Tommy and his family tremendously and hopefully help Tommy to keep his handicap accessible van.
