We are raising funds for the community built Paisano DIY Skatepark! The entire project has been funded, designed, and built, by the local skateboarding community! Help us push the project forward on this new round to expand the park!
We've had skaters and local community members of all ages help support our cause in various ways. We need funds for materials, tools, and fuel to transport it all to the spot in Central El Paso. Paisano Park is located next to the iconic skate spot known worldwide as "The Hook". Many pro skaters have filmed clips on this iconic spot. It's how the spot was discovered to be an IDEAL spot for a skatepark, due to it's natural shade properties and the compacted sub-grade required to pour concrete on top of.
As with all DIY Skateparks, like Burnside, Marginal Way, Channel St, Washington St, etc... these parks are built by a unique scene of skaters that are special to that period of skateboarding history and time. They are basically the artists of that skate period in that scene. There is something unique that cannot be replicated when a scene of skaters come together to build a spot to be left for the next generations, to spark that fire that brought us all to skateboarding in the first place. This is where sport and art merge. The creativity of skateboarding is always evolving together with the creative process of building skatepark features. Modern skateboarding wouldn't exist how it does today, without the intricate process of skatepark designing and building.
Also, many times DIY parks are built because a need is not being met. This can be for MANY reasons. Some cities have parks that are simply too plain, or limited. Sometimes it can be location related. Like mentioned previously, we feel that there is a creativity and design aspect that our unique scene of skaters/builders has to offer that nobody else can replicate. However, it's undeniable that we need a park with shade here in the Chihuahuan Desert, where it peaks around 120 Fahrenheit in the summer. The centralized location and sense of ownership and creativity that are involved when it comes to designing and building a park as a community, will also lead to a stronger skateboarding scene and a new generation of kids that absolutely destroy on a skateboard. This instills a sense of pride and respect that these younger skaters will continue on with in the future, to help keep this spot and other parks clean in the area.
Help us leave our mark on skateboarding history! Shoot us a message if you have tools to donate, or would like to help in person.
Thank you very much!
