We have BIG news!
We are adopting a child!
As you may know, the option for us to have a second child was taken from us after Everdean was born.
Jen and I have always wanted more children to love! When Jennifer was only 28, shortly after our daughter was born, she needed to have a hysterectomy. She tried many medications and surgeries over the years to battle the crippling pain, but nothing helped. After a 4-year battle with excruciating pain caused by endometriosis, and an incredibly painful pregnancy, it was a tough decision to make.
At that point we were out of options and had to make the tough call to remove her uterus and one ovary. We chose to leave one ovary, so we still had the option of surrogacy. Even these extreme measures did not help with the pain, and they had to take the last ovary out.
We talked many times about what options this would leave us with to enable us to expand our family. We even talked about adoption long before Everdean was born. We knew with Jen’s agonizing pain that a healthy pregnancy may not have ever been an option. Yes, we are so very blessed to have our sweet girl, Everdean, but all three of us have so much love to give.
Over the years we looked into adoption in the different states we lived in. Some of the locations we lived in long enough to start the process but the state laws/regulations were insurmountable. After we explored our options, and landed in Virginia for an extended time, we decided that adoption was our best choice for completing our family and giving a child in need a great home with more love than they could ever know!
We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new child into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption-related costs can easily total up to $45,000 or more. Therefore, we have set a goal of $25,000 to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents. We are already utilizing tax credits, grants, and money from our jobs. We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of our growing family. God bless you and thank you for your consideration in helping us navigate this process!
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
