Help Charlie move to a state with more resources
Donation protected
Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to read our story.
We have asked for help before, and I figured what harm would it do to ask for help for hopefully the last time.
Our daughter, Charlie, was born with a severe heart defect 2 years ago and spent the first year of her life inpatient at UCSF receiving several surgeries, including open heart surgery.
The happiest day of our lives was the day she was discharged a little less than a year ago. She came home with a tracheotomy, home ventilator, on oxygen, and receiving nutrition via g-tube.
Upon discharge, the requirement for us to leave was to either find 24-hour care, whether that be from us or nursing, to monitor Charlie due to having a trach and being on a ventilator. She cannot be left unattended or with anyone that has not been trained to take care of her. Because of this, we are not able to work.
We moved to Oregon because we were facing homelessness. We did not know before moving that here in Oregon, specifically where we moved to, does not have any nursing agencies that are able to take care of Charlie. Oregon also does not offer any resources like being paid caregivers for parents of medically complex children.
Because of this, we live off of very little money ($900 a month) due to not being able to get a full-time job. We make it work, and dad does odd jobs when he can.
We are asking to raise funds so we can move back to California, where they have IHHS (Charlie has already been determined to qualify for hours) and we can be paid to care for her. We so desperately want and need stability, and this will help.
