This year I had spent 3 months in the Philippines with a non-profit charity called 10 Foundations. The charity helps women of the community lift themselves out of poverty cycle by teaching them how to sew bags and give them their earnings to be able to look after their families.
I had been designing bags alongside them, and together with my friend and photographer Joe, documenting young people in the community to better understand life growing up in the Philippines.
I intend on fundraising some money for the charity as well as shed light on Filipino culture and their adversities. I think it is important to celebrate the people who make our clothes who often go overlooked within the design chain although integral to the process. Overall, I hope people leave feeling connected to the young people interviewed and find similarities within human behaviour and that our only differences come from geographic disposition. This project has been important to me especially at this current time while there have been anti-immigration riots and a seeming disconnect between people.
Thank you to 10 Foundations for making this possible as well as Olivia and Martha for all of your contributions.
