Roughly 27,000 people in Lackawanna County are considered food insecure. Fruits & Roots is a new community refrigerator project located in Lackawanna County outside of the Valley Community Library in Peckville, PA. Fruits & Roots differs from local food pantries in that donations to the fridge are primarily fruits and vegetables- to provide nutritious, fresh food alternatives to the shelf-stable items found at pantries.

Fruits & Roots is a 100% volunteer-run mutual aid organization. Mutual aid means that our work is voluntary and reciprocal. Anyone in the community can give as much as they’re able and take as much as they need. Because of the mutual aid model, we rely on donations from businesses and individuals in our community. Donations will be used to help with start-up costs and costs involved in maintaining the fridge in the community.
