I feel a little strange asking for help as I have never been one who asked for charity, but I have seen communities and friends unite when times are tough. The generosity and giving of those who share in the Kingdom of Jesus has never ceased to amaze me, and I can never express the thankfulness for the amazing people who I have had the privilege of being involved with in my years on this earth.
My daughter and son-in-law recently purchased a house as they are moving due to a relocation in the armed services. As they were stationed nearly 2,000 miles away from their new location, they basically had to buy a house sight unseen, relying on their realtor to provide all information through FaceTime, videos, and texts.
They closed on the house at the beginning of November, while they were unable to move until mid-January. In the meantime, family members visited the house to see what could be done to help prep the house for their arrival. During that time, it was discovered that the gas had been shut off due to the previous owners not paying the bill. In attempting to get the gas turned back on, it was found out that the gas company did not have the correct address attached to the account, and it delayed getting the gas turned back on.
When the gas company finally arrived to turn on the gas, it was too late; the pipes froze and then burst, causing ceilings and walls to be destroyed, and the basement filled with over 2 feet of water. After paying out of pocket to have the plumbing repaired and multiple weeks dealing with an insurance adjuster, they found out that the insurance will not cover repairs due to the gas being shut off when the damage occurred. Now they are moving across the country with their 2 young daughters to a house that is not even livable. The house was built in the early 1900s, and the walls and ceilings were not constructed with modern building materials, which exacerbates the cost and time of repairs. They have used much of their savings for the move and will be forced to live in their camper while the house is being repaired as the insurance is not helping with any costs. While living in a camper sounds fun, it is tough with 2 small kids and compounding that, it is January in the Midwest with much more winter to come.
Kassidy and Ethan are an amazing young couple whose strong faith and love of family reflects in their lives on a daily basis. They believe that God has a plan and even the unfortunate and difficult parts are all part of the grand plan that God has for their lives. As they look to build on their new lives after this relocation, they are fully embracing the difficulties and problems that the Lord has laid in their path. They will overcome it because they and we believe that God does not always call the qualified; He qualifies the called, and they are called to be part of their new community and share the love of Christ.
We have secured some help from family and friends in some of the labor and materials to repair the house, but we still live 3 hours away from them. We are asking for help in covering some of the costs of materials and labor for repairing the house so they will be able to complete their cross-country move and make their new house a home.
We thank you for any prayers, thoughts or donations you are able to contribute.
