In past years, I either didn’t get around to doing a birthday post on Facebook, or I chose to fundraise for a nonprofit I love.

This year feels a little different. Some of my close friends already know that I was recently scammed and my finances have been set back to zero. I’m still staying positive and working hard, but this time, for my birthday, I’d like to be a little “selfish” and ask for support for myself.

Here’s what I’m hoping for: I’d love to raise funds to buy a harmonium.

My students in yoga classes always enjoy when I chant, and today I attended a beautiful kirtan gathering that left me deeply inspired. I realized how much I want to bring more live chanting into my classes — not just singing, but singing while playing the harmonium.

This instrument would be a gift not just to me, but to my community. It would support my practice, inspire me to keep learning, and allow me to share more music, beauty, and healing with others.

This is my first time fundraising for myself, so I feel a little shy about it. Harmoniums generally range between $300 to $1200. Since I’m not a professional in harmonium studies, I chose a middle number as my fundraising goal. When the time comes, I’ll also decide which harmonium to purchase depending on the amount raised. I deeply appreciate your support in helping me take this step!
