- Over the New Year holiday we visited cousins in Latvia and I learned of an incredible story from my cousin, Tatyana. Tatyana Kondratuka is a school superintendent for the small town of Salacgriva, located in northern Latvia on the Baltic Sea. Two years ago she connected with a couple from Ukraine who were basketball coaches. The couple used their own cars to bring 35 children, ages 8 to 12, out of the war zone. Tatyana welcomed them into her district and the local city hall agreed to cover their lodging in a local hotel and daily meals. Most importantly, they continue to study in the school (in Latvian) and online (in Ukrainian). They also get to practice basketball every day, dreaming of returning to their free motherland and playing there. During their time in Latvia many have lost parents and family members to the war in Ukraine. They have a tough road ahead. For now we are asking our community in Minnesota to help us raise money to send to Tatyana who will purchase some much needed items for the kids like underwear, coats, electronics for school and basketball gear.
We will share receipts of the purchases with those who donate or on this platform.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
