My name is Wei Wei, and I am raising funds to support a young family in our local community who are facing unexpected medical costs while building a new life in Australia.

Henry and his family recently moved from the Philippines to Gembrook, Victoria. Henry works on a cattle farm and, after a long period apart, he was finally able to sponsor his wife, Mary Ann, and their two young sons to join him here. They are currently waiting for their temporary visas to be granted, a process that may take up to nine months.

During this waiting period, the family is not eligible for Medicare benefits.

Why This Fund Matters

Mary Ann is currently pregnant with their third child. In order to be officially booked in for maternity care at Angliss Hospital in Ferntree Gully, the family is required to pay $8,000 upfront to cover hospital costs.

Raising young children in a foreign country is already challenging, especially without extended family support. There is a saying that “it takes a village to raise a child.” Right now, this family is far from their village. As a community, we have the opportunity to be that village for them — to surround them with care, practical help, and reassurance during this vulnerable season of life.

We know this family through St Luke’s Church in Cockatoo. They are faithful believers, gentle, hardworking, and kind people. While they remain strong and hopeful, it is clear that the uncertainties of starting over in a new country weigh heavily on them.

How the Funds Will Be Used

All funds raised will go directly towards:

• Mary Ann’s hospital booking and maternity care at Angliss Hospital

• Essential medical expenses related to the birth of their baby
