A Mother’s Plea for Hope and Dignity
My name is Fabiola, and I am a Venezuelan mother who has called the UK home for over 13 years. I have always believed that through education, honesty, and hard work, you can build a better life.
I have been working for over 25 years, and built a career in compliance and financial services, working across three countries to support my family and create stability.
But the last few years have tested every ounce of that strength.
In 2020, after standing up for what I believed was right in my workplace, I lost my dream job overnight. What followed were years of trying to rebuild, from warehouse shifts to temporary admin jobs, while facing burnout, discrimination, and the heavy toll of the pandemic.
Despite my efforts, life kept getting harder. My mental health began to crumble under the pressure of financial insecurity and repeated setbacks. Still, I kept going, for my husband and our daughter, who has watched me fight every single day to keep our home and our hope alive.
Although my husband supports in every way he can, the financial and emotional weight of keeping our household afloat has fallen mostly on my shoulders.
Like many families recovering from hardship, we have done our best to stay strong together, but without reliable transport, it has been almost impossible for either of us to secure consistent, better-paying work. We have not been able to go on holidays for the last 3 years, not even taking our daughter to ta Theme Pack, I have not seen my family since I moved to England, and my family has not met my daughter yet.
We live in Milton Keynes, where having a car is not a luxury... It is essential.
When our last car broke down in 2022, we thought we would manage without one for a while. But two years later, relying on taxis and limited public transport has become a huge financial burden: nearly £250 every month, just to get to work, school, and medical appointments. That is money we could be using toward a car loan or insurance, if only we were allowed credit.
Because of an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA); a debt-relief plan that prevents me from taking on any credit for six years, so we cannot finance a vehicle. And with around £4,000 in mortgage arrears, we are doing everything we can just to keep our heads above water.
I have sold nearly everything of value, taken on every job available, and cut costs to the bone, but without transport, we remain trapped. I have seen my income fall dramatically from £55,000 to minimum salary, making it impossible to access better opportunities or rebuild the life I once worked so hard for.
So today, I am asking (humbly) for your help.
If you can donate a working car or contribute toward the purchase of one, you would be giving us more than transportation. You would be giving us a chance to start again: to work, care for our daughter, and move forward with dignity.
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to stability, closer to hope.
This is not just about a vehicle. It is about freedom, safety, and a mother’s determination to give her child the life she deserves.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading, donating, or even just sharing this appeal.
Your kindness can truly change the direction of our lives.
I know there are many people facing difficulties right now, which makes your support (in any form) even more meaningful to us.
With gratitude and hope,
Fabiola & Family
Milton Keynes, UK
