Agnarr's Story - Amazing video detailing our upcoming trip!
As some of you may know—and many may not—I’ve been spending a portion of this year training as an adaptive dive buddy and assisting with adaptive scuba dives. Scuba diving has been shown to provide incredible benefits for people with disabilities: it creates a sense of freedom and weightlessness that can relieve chronic pain, improve mobility, and ease mental health challenges like PTSD and anxiety. For veterans, trauma survivors, and others with physical or cognitive disabilities, diving offers not just recreation but also therapy, empowerment, and a renewed sense of possibility. Being part of this work has been deeply fulfilling, and in just over a week I’ll be traveling to Honduras to assist with my first open water adaptive dives through our local adaptive diving chapter.
I’ve created this GoFundMe for two reasons:
1 – To raise awareness.
Our local chapter, Scuba Access For Everyone (S.A.F.E.), was founded by two incredible individuals who chose to spend their retirement building opportunities for adaptive divers, veterans, and people with disabilities. Instead of slowing down, they dove right in (pun intended!) to create life-changing experiences for others. S.A.F.E. is part of the larger international organization Diveheart, which has done remarkable work backed by research and stories of transformation. I encourage you to check out these resources and learn more about the mission:
2 – To support the mission financially.
Funds raised here will go toward two things: helping cover some of my own training and travel costs as I continue growing as an adaptive dive buddy, and directly supporting S.A.F.E. Contributions may help improve facilities, assist adaptive divers or dive buddies with financial barriers, or fuel the larger Diveheart mission of creating opportunities for people of all abilities to experience the healing power of scuba.
For me, some of the happiest moments of my life have been spent blowing bubbles underwater. I’ve been fortunate to travel to incredible places around the world and experience the magic of the underwater world. At times, I even considered making diving my career, but it never quite felt like the right path. Volunteering with S.A.F.E. and Diveheart has become the perfect intersection of my love for diving and my passion for sharing it with others—and I’m excited to see where this journey leads.
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about this program and for considering your support. Whether through a donation, sharing this campaign, or simply spreading the word, you’ll be helping create more moments of freedom and joy underwater for people who need it most.
