Hi, my name is Cecilia Macuilxochitl Ortega-Cano. I’m a cultural artist, educator, and community leader with deep roots in Totonaca-Nahua and Afro-Mexican heritage. As the Director of Ameyal Mexican Cultural Academy, I’ve dedicated my life to preserving and sharing the beauty of Indigenous Mexican traditions through dance, music, and education. We’re currently preparing for a series of performances that honor the vibrant culture of Oaxaca, and we need your support. We are fundraising to honor and preserve traditional Indigenous attire from Oaxaca, created by and for our communities in México, to be worn proudly during the Guelaguetza 2025 in Miami.

What is the Guelaguetza?

The Guelaguetza is more than a celebration. It is an ancestral act of generosity. It is the heart of the Oaxacan people beating strongly through dance, song, traditional attire, and unity.

In the Guelaguetza, each person offers what they can — flowers, food, music, art — and everything is shared with love. This is how community is woven.

Today, we invite you to be part of this living tradition.

Hola, mi nombre es Cecilia Macuilxochitl Ortega-Cano. Soy artista cultural, educadora y líder comunitaria con raíces Totonaca-Nahua y Afromexicana. Como directora de la Academia Cultural Mexicana Ameyal, he dedicado mi vida a preservar y compartir la belleza de las tradiciones indígenas mexicanas a través de la danza, la música y la educación. Actualmente, nos estamos preparando para una serie de presentaciones que honran la vibrante cultura de Oaxaca, y necesitamos tu apoyo. Estamos recaudando fondos para honrar y preservar la vestimenta tradicional indígena de Oaxaca —creada por nuestras comunidades en México— para lucirla con orgullo durante la Guelaguetza 2025 en Miami. 

 ¿Qué es la Guelaguetza? 

La Guelaguetza es más que una celebración. Es un acto ancestral de generosidad. Es el corazón del pueblo oaxaqueño latiendo con fuerza a través de la danza, el canto, el vestuario tradicional y la unidad. 

En la Guelaguetza, cada persona ofrece lo que puede —flores, comida, música, arte— y todo se comparte con amor. Así se teje la comunidad. 

Hoy te invitamos a ser parte de esta tradición viva.
