EireLanzo Mental Health & Suicide Awareness
On 15 March, we will come together in Puerto del Carmen (Tías, Lanzarote) for a special 5km charity walk, jog or run along the seafront avenue. This event is organised as part of the Irish St Patrick’s celebrations in Lanzarote and aims to raise awareness and support for mental health and suicide prevention both in Ireland and Lanzarote.
The event is organised by Shine.ie through its Mental Health – Green Ribbon Campaign, together with Canarias Eco-Education Center, a non-profit organisation leading the project Suicide Awareness Education in Lanzarote.
This 5km route (2.5km out and 2.5km back) symbolises a shared journey: starting together, supporting each other along the way, and finishing united in the fight against mental illness stigma and suicide.
We are very grateful for the support that has made this event possible, particularly the Cabildo de Lanzarote (President Oswaldo Betancort García) and the Ayuntamiento de Tías (Mayor Jose Juan Cruz Saavedra), whose collaboration has helped us bring this meaningful initiative to the Puerto del Carmen promenade.
Why we are fundraising?
Mental health stigma remains one of the biggest barriers to treatment, recovery and open conversation. Shine’s Green Ribbon Campaign in Ireland works year-round to reduce stigma, encourage understanding and promote compassionate community support. Funds raised from this initiative will go directly to Shine.ie to support their vital mental health awareness and suicide prevention work.
How you can support?
We invite participants and supporters to purchase a green ribbon donation (minimum €10). Wearing the green ribbon during the walk — and throughout St Patrick’s week in Puerto del Carmen — shows solidarity, sparks conversations and helps keep mental health visible in our communities.
Any additional donation, no matter the size, is warmly welcomed and will directly support ongoing mental health initiatives.
Join us
Whether you walk, jog or run, your participation helps send a powerful message: mental health matters, stigma must end, and no one should face these challenges alone.
You can also take part virtually from Ireland or anywhere else in the world on the same day, and a digital participation certificate will be provided.
Together, from Ireland to Lanzarote, let’s take steps towards awareness, compassion and hope.
