From Garbage Bags to Duffle Bags

Donation protected
It takes a BIG village and Duffle Bag Series will be an ongoing non-profit for Foster Children in Nevada and Utah.

I became a foster mom in 2014. When I received a call to pick up the girls, they came to the side door carrying a black garbage bag. Once we arrived at my home, we opened up their bag to see their personal belongings. There, in the stretched and ripped sack, was a broken doll, mismatched clothing that was a combination of boys' and girls' clothing, and a broken board book.

These garbage bags have haunted me since then, and I've been thinking about how I can truly bring something comforting during a traumatic time in these children’s lives.

In Clark County alone, there are over 3,400 children needing a foster family. 3,400 black garbage bags ready to be placed in the hands of a child who needs more compassion than others during those moments.

My GOAL: With the help of compassionate strangers, my family, and close friends, we will put together Village duffle bags. In these duffle bags will be a cozy blanket, a book or journal, a few personal hygiene products, and hopefully a stuffed animal for them to hold on their first night with their placement.
