I met James through my work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), and I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow into a determined and resilient young man.
James has already overcome more than most people his age.
At just 5 years old, he was removed from his mother’s care due to abandonment and neglect and entered the foster system. For the next 8 years, he moved through that system until, at age 13, his older brother stepped up and adopted him, giving him the stability he needed to begin thriving.
James took that opportunity seriously.
He worked hard in school, got a job, and after turning 18, made the decision to reconnect with his mother while attending junior college. During that time, he wasn’t just supporting himself, he was also helping support his mom financially, all while staying focused on his education.
This spring, all of that hard work paid off.
James was accepted to Hawaii Pacific University on a full scholarship, where he plans to study biology and continue building a future for himself.
Unfortunately, just as he reached this milestone, his situation took an unexpected turn.
His mother became emotionally unstable and abruptly locked him out of the home—refusing to allow him back in or even retrieve his personal belongings. Overnight, James found himself without a place to live.
Despite this, he is still working and remains committed to his goals.
Right now, James needs short-term support to bridge the gap between today and the start of his university journey.
What the funds will be used for:
* Temporary housing (room rental or short-term stay)
* Food and basic living expenses
* Transportation to maintain his job
* Replacing essential personal items
* Travel and transition costs as he prepares to leave for Hawaii Pacific University
Our Goal: $5,000
This amount will help stabilize James over the next few months so he can continue working, stay safe, and arrive at college ready to succeed, not set back by circumstances outside his control.
James is not asking for a handout because he’s already doing the hard work. This support simply ensures that a sudden setback doesn’t derail everything he’s worked toward.
If you’re able to contribute or share this campaign, it would make a meaningful difference in helping James take the next step in his life.
Thank you for your support.
