On February 24, 2026 devastating flash floods and high rivers swept through communities in Sabaneta de Yásica and Gaspar Hernández on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Many families were left standing in water-filled homes with their beds, furniture, and belongings destroyed within a few short hours.
My name is Kristen and I live on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Seeing so many people in our nearby communities suffering after these floods has been heartbreaking. Many families here have very little support when disasters like this happen. There is often no insurance to help repair homes or replace belongings, and resources are limited.
Many families are now trying to rebuild from nothing. Mattresses, clothing, household items, and other basic necessities were lost in the muddy floodwaters, leaving people without the essentials they rely on every day. Many animals in the community have also been displaced and affected by the flooding.
This fundraiser will provide direct support to help replace essential items, assist animals in need, and help families begin rebuilding their homes and lives.
I am personally going into the affected communities, meeting directly with families, and helping them replace the items they lost and to see how we can improve basic infrastructure, such as drainage, flooring, and other protective measure, to help reduce the risk of future flooding and make homes safer moving forward.
I will share updates and photos (with permission) so donors can see exactly how the funds are helping families and animals in the community.
Together, we can help families in Sabaneta de Yásica and Gaspar Hernández rebuild their homes, strengthen them against future flooding, and restore hope in our community. Thank you very much for helping me help others!
