From Fishing Trip to Devastating Tragedy
On what was supposed to be a simple trip to grab worms before a day of fishing during this heat wave in Michigan, two brothers, Paul Baker and Kody Sheffield, were involved in a devastating, head on collision with another vehicle in Harrietta, Michigan.
Paul, 33, we believe, tragically died on impact. Paul leaves behind three children, a loving mother and father, siblings, and countless friends & family who are absolutely heartbroken. The family is now trying to find a way to give him the goodbye he deserves—a cremation and a headstone so his children and loved ones have a place to honor and remember him.
Kody, his brother, 40, was pulled from the burning car by the bravery of strangers. He was airlifted to Grand Rapids with life-threatening injuries: third-degree burns, broken left leg, left arm, and nose, and internal bleeding. He is on a ventilator and scheduled for his 3rd life saving surgery today (Tuesday June 24th). He faces a long, uncertain road to recovery and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.
This family is now grieving a tragic loss while also trying to support Kody’s recovery emotionally, physically, and financially. Any amount you’re able to give will go toward funeral and memorial costs for Paul, and to help ease the financial burden of Kody’s recovery and day-to-day living expenses for himself, his wife, and children.
Please help us lay Paul to rest and lift Kody up. Show this family that they are not alone in their grief.
My name is Robyn, I’m Brittani Baker’s best friend, Paul and Kody’s sister. We spent our childhood together, playing baseball in their backyard, walking to the creek, riding the bus to school and back, and camping in these beautiful Northern Michigan summers. This family is my family. Watching them go through something this devastating has been heartbreaking beyond words.
If you can donate, no matter the amount, it means the world. And if you can’t, please consider sharing this page so we can help them find some relief in the middle of this darkness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
