Hello, my name is Rochelle, and my family and I have the honour of fostering a special dog named Peggy from the SOS Dog Pound in Los Barrios, Spain.

Peggy was rescued from a life of neglect, found among a group of dogs that were being fed by kind neighbours who threw food over a fence. The dogs belonged to an elderly man who could no longer care for them and has since been hospitalized. Peggy was in the worst condition of all. Her hair was severely matted, her skin was infected, and she had already lost the sight in one of her eyes.

Unfortunately, Peggy’s lack of sight continues to impact her quality of life. While there is no hope for her left eye, which has been treated with drops to reduce swelling and save it from removal, there is a chance for Peggy to regain her vision in her right eye. She has a cataract that, with surgery, could be removed, giving her the gift of sight. She needs surgery soon because the longer her condition goes untreated, the worse it will become, potentially leading to a complete loss of her already limited vision.

Despite everything, Peggy is only 4 years old and still has so much life ahead of her. She is a gentle, sweet soul who has shown nothing but trust and love since she was rescued. Peggy is currently receiving eye drops as a treatment to maintain the condition of her eyes, but this is only a temporary solution.

Cataract Surgery

The primary focus of the funds will be on Peggy’s cataract surgery as recommended by a specialist ophthalmologist. This operation is critical for restoring vision in her right eye by specialists in Malaga, giving her the ability to see again and dramatically improving her quality of life. The procedure involves removing the cataract, which is a clouding of the eye's natural lens. This surgery will give Peggy the chance to see the world around her, helping her navigate her environment with confidence and joy.

Additional Procedures

While Peggy is under anesthesia for her cataract surgery, the specialists will also address several other concerns to ensure she gets the best care possible:

Tummy Cyst: Peggy has a large cyst hanging from her tummy that touches the floor when she walks. This not only causes her discomfort but also poses a risk of injury or infection. Removing this non-malignment cyst will greatly improve her comfort and mobility.

Paw Cyst: Another cyst is located on the bottom of Peggy’s paw, affecting her ability to walk and run without pain. Removing this cyst will allow Peggy to move freely and enjoy her walks without discomfort.

Other Lumps: Peggy also has several other lumps on her back and bum that will be removed. This will help her skin clear up, her fur grow, and allow her full cuteness potential to be reached—an important step in her long journey to finding a forever home through adoption.

By addressing all of these health issues in one go, we can reduce Peggy’s time under anesthesia and minimize her recovery period.

Peggy deserves this second chance. She deserves to see the world, to enjoy a life free from darkness, and to experience the joys of being a dog—running, playing, and exploring with confidence. The cost of her surgery is beyond what we, or the already overwhelmed dog shelter, can manage on our own, which is why I’m reaching out to the kindness of others.
