Friends Of Turkey Urgent Earthquake Appeal

Dear Family and Friends

Leicester Friends of Turkey are generating funds to support the BTA (British Turkish Association). We have expressed solidarity with them for which they are extremely grateful.

On Monday 6th February, two enormous 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes struck the regions of Southeast Türkiye (Turkey) and North West Syria. Thousands of people have been seriously injured and need urgent medical support. As temperatures plummet below freezing, thousands of families made homeless by the earthquake need food, water and shelter. Over 33,000 people have tragically lost their lives.

Our Turkish brothers and sisters are working tirelessly to generate funds so that they may send it directly at the source to Turkiye where most items like blankets, tents, socks etc are manufactured and are cheaper to buy and have knowledge of where exactly they are required.

Your donations will be used to reach people in urgent need in the aftermath of the earthquakes. It will provide support and aid that includes:

• Distributing essentials like food water and blankets

• Setting up temporary shelters to support thousands of survivors who are facing freezing conditions.

• Providing first aid and crisis support

• Assisting with the rescue efforts and getting people vital medical aid

• Providing psychosocial support to those who have been traumatised.

Turkiye is a very well-organised country with a government, armed forces, healthcare services, UK Embassy & Consulate and an airline (Turkish) that works closely with the British Turkish Association.

We urge and request you to please contribute generously.

It has been confirmed that funds donated can be used as part of Zakat.

The funds generated from this GoFundMe page will go directly to The British Turkish Association which is working directly with the Turkish embassy and charities on the ground.
