Friends of Spanaway Lake

Spanaway Lake is in TROUBLE. It is losing all value as a recreational resource for the 500,000 people who use the lake every summer. The lake does not get money from admission fees, Fantasy Lights as some people believe. That money is to fund the maintenance of the park but none of that money is directed to care of the lake.The lake was actually CLOSED for all recreational purposes from mid-August until the first part of November this year.  The lake is being overcome by nutrients that promote the unchecked growth of weeds and TOXIC algae.  The good news is that health of this valuable gem can be restored but it will require a lot of money and a lot of work  on the part of all who love this beautiful resource to make that happen.
