Friends Of Kaercher Creek

Friends Of Kaercher Creek has been dedicating time, effort and resources at Kaercher Creek Park, near Hamburg since 2014.  During that year,  the property was abandoned by Berks County Commissioners, after a dispute with the PA Fish & Boat Commission. They couldn't negotiate common ground regarding the discovery of battery casings found on the property and its remediation, along with future testing and implications in the event of new discovery of lead contamination. They county dropped their $1/year lease with Fish & Boat, after 40 years. The battery issue on the boat launch side was resolved via remediation.

The Fish & Boat Commission maintains the lake as a fishery and mows the grass around the boat launch, while the park goes mostly ignored.

FOKC has entered into an "Adopt An Access Area" agreement with the PA Fish & Boat Commission. This will officially recognize our group and allow us to mow grass and pull weeds around specific areas of the park side.

To secure the agreement, FOKC was required to purchase a $1,000,000 general liability insurance policy. That cost, alone, is $250 per year.

Funds raised through this GoFundMe will help to pay for the insurance. It will also assist in the costs generated by the use of, acquisition of, supplies for and maintenance of equipment. We're required to mow the grass twice a month. We'll also be pulling and whacking weeds, as necessary.

As best they can, people still enjoy walking, bird watching, jogging, fishing, reading and family time on the park side of the lake. Of particular interest, it's important to keep the shoreline areas accessible to license buying anglers. Boaters are much more accommodated at the "K". We feel shoreline anglers should have the same access to fishing areas, without battling 4+ foot high weed overgrowth, shoreline vermin, tick and spotted lantern fly colonies.

Please consider donating to our cause. Your help will assist those volunteers giving of their time and effort to keep the "K" somewhat usable, instead of being swallowed by overgrowth. Please follow "Friends Of Kaercher Creek" on Facebook. If you're physically able to help us anytime, feel free to contact us. We'll keep you up to date on the latest news and work schedules. Even volunteering one time, will help the cause.

Countless memories have been made at Kaercher Creek since opening in 1972. Help us to keep them alive and join our effort to bring back the glory days of this important quality of life, family gathering place in Northern Berks County.

Thank-you!
