Friends of George & Julie - Rent & Tires

A few nights ago I published a post on Nextdoor asking neighbors not to call the police on a vehicle that had been parked on our street for weeks. The owner, George, was out of a job and could not get the car started. The back windshield was missing and I found out he had been sleeping in there, along with his service dog Precious and occasionally, his mom Julie. The community response was immediate- with people showing up to help repair the vehicle, replace the windshield, buy groceries, cook meals, donate dog food, provide job training and even offer temporary housing for a few nights. The enthusiasm to help these people in need was inspiring enough that we have since created a group on Nextdoor- Friends of George. George and Julie are truly humbled by all the outpouring of  support! 

We believe that George and Julie may be able to locate an apartment through Denver Housing this week (fingers crossed!) and we would like to raise $1000 to pay for their first month's rent and possibly some new (or used) tires for their vehicle.  Their current tires are completely bald and pose a threat to their safety as well as other drivers. As a community we've accomplished a lot in just a few days, giving them a small leg up in their journey to stable housing and gainful employment. With these funds we hope to give them some respite as they get settled, physically and emotionally, so they can start to rebuild their lives.
