Dear Friends of Blue Kangaroo Coffee Founders Cindy and Flo:
In 2008 Cindy Wallace and Flo Posadas established Blue Kangaroo Coffee Roasters and quickly became one of the centerpieces of the Sellwood-Moreland community.
Over the years they created a welcoming living room to connect, indulge our children, enjoy the good company of friends, and imbibe our coffee favorites. Without hesitation they hosted and donated to our fundraisers, community events, and meetings; always giving back to the community that sustained them.
In 2017, Cindy suffered a life altering traumatic brain injury. For the next three years they were determined to keep Blue Kangaroo going, honoring a commitment to their employees and the community relationships they’d spent a decade building, all while hoping for Cindy’s return. In early 2020, with the long term effects of traumatic brain injury leaving Cindy still unable to work, they sadly announced their need to shut down the business.
Shortly thereafter they were approached with a straightforward sales contract to buy the business. They accepted the buyer’s presented terms, the transition was announced, and we all welcomed the new operators with open arms.
The purchase should have concluded last summer but unfortunately they did not receive funds as promised in the contract. After months left dangling, Cindy and Flo were advised to seek legal counsel and reluctantly began to share this struggle with the greater community.
Without the funds from the business they built, their financial obligations are in jeopardy. Seeking legal remedy is costly and, without the willingness of the new operators to make the promised payments, is the only remaining recourse available at this juncture.
This Go Fund Me is being established with collective gratitude for these women who have given so much to us. All funds will be used to cover legal fees incurred in the resolution of this matter.
It is our hope that the matter be resolved without need or exhaustion of these funds. In that case, ANY and ALL remaining funds will be donated to the Sellwood Community House, per Cindy and Flo’s request.
