This summer I was supposed to be interning with One Collective in Masatepe, Nicaragua, to collect and analyze data on local micro-, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Masatepe and the business climate for high growth-potential firms seeking access to capital and nonfinancial resources. Last semester I wrote a 40-page research design and a 45-page financial landscape report in preparation for this internship, and I was very excited to get down there. Unfortunately, my internship coordinators and host canceled this trip during finals week due to the recent social unrest in Nicaragua and a travel advisory issued by the US State Department.
So my plans have changed! Two weeks ago my internship coordinator, my research advisor, and I decided to go with an opportunity that became available in Fresno, CA. I will be helping a small team of community development catalysts to create an employment skills development and placement program for at-risk youth.
This position is not paid and I therefore have to raise the funds needed to cover all of my expenses for this 3-month internship, which total $3,600.
I am thankful beyond words to share with you that I have a supporter who has committed to matching the first $500 that I raise if I can raise it before June 18. This will cover my immediate housing and travel expenses since my first rent payment of $500 is due this Friday!
If you would like to hear more about what I’m doing and how God is working in this part of Fresno, please feel free to email me or reach out in any way.
Thank you so much!
