Fresh mud and roof for Don Ricardo's adobe Home
Donation protected
Rick (Don Ricardo) & Terry Klein's original place was built in 1968 - at the foot of Lama Mountain, just outside Taos, New Mexico - using a team of horses from Taos Pueblo to mix mud for handmade adobe bricks. Both their sons - Joaquin and Chris - were born in the bedroom visible at the far right of the photo above, nearly under the earth. Over the years the home grew, often using salvaged materials from older buildings. The home has become an epicenter of prayer, music, vision quest, sweat lodge, and sustainable living for the Kleins, & also for their many communities and circles both local and across the world.
Now, after some 50 years of service, the home, a model of low impact architecture and building, is in real need of repair. Many of the outer walls are in decline and needing new plaster, and the roof also needs serious refurbishment and new drainage. There is a further plan to replace failing windows and rebuild the central, exterior stair, which has become a danger due to rot.
In total we are attempting to raise $8500 to pay for supplies and a team of plasterers, roofers and builders - led by Rick and Terry's son Chris, & Rick himself.
FROM RICK: "In my Elder Years i have not been able to maintain the ailing building as adobe requires. It overjoys my heart to see the the place being restored so that it can be used from now and on into future generations. A humble thank you for any help with this endeavor, Love - Rick".
Ideally we can get these funds collected in the coming weeks, before it gets too cold to do this work for the season. Charlie and Jordan will collect the funds and make sure that they find their way directly to supplies and labor for these tasks.
The campaign team - Wendelin, Marie, Jordan, Ben, Matt, James, Jason, and Charlie - are sincerely grateful for all our collective support and care for our dear elders and their lovely and inspiring home.
This home has become a temple outpost for so many in our circles as well as a constant shelter and hearth for Rick and Terry and their family. Let's take care of it!
Together, as a a mighty medicine circle, we can make Ricks dream of restoration happen.
Please give what you can. Please share this link with others who know and love the Kleins. Please consider checking in over the coming weeks to make sure we reach our goal.
THANK YOU!!!
