Hello Everyone,

My name is David Lawler from Carlow town.

In March 2026 I will travel with a group of 33 volunteers, with an Irish charity called Freeland Projects, to a township called Vrygrond, just outside of Cape Town, South Africa. This charity specialises in building schools and secure housing, providing vulnerable children with a safe environment for learning and growth.

During our visit we plan to extend and enhance a community Safe House, build previously by Freeland Projects. A sensory room for 1-to-1 counselling, a library, a covered-in playground, new toilet block and new kitchen facilities are all in the plan!

This safe house is home to many vulnerable children who have been neglected, abandoned, or abused, and our work will greatly enhance their lives.

This will be my first time travelling with the Freeland Projects and my target is to raise €4,000. All funds raised will go towards the completion of this project.
