Please feel free to read on below on how "Freedom Rise" was born or check out the updates to see what has been completed.
Let me introduce you to a lovely couple, Pastor John and Priscilla Andoh. Annita, Jo, Glenise and I had the absolute pleasure of staying with them in Accra, Ghana in August 2016. Their hearts are so big and generous that it can’t be described in words. They are a couple with a vision for caring for those who have been widowed or orphaned. The Ghanaians are so friendly with servant hearts, yet it is a place in desperate poverty where the effects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic have left many orphaned and widowed.
At present there are 63 orphans that they feed and house and over 54 widows who they also feed and teach to be able to run their own businesses. The current orphanage and widows complex is in the village of Doryumu, where it is under-staffed and under-resourced. They are currently renting this small area but it is quickly being outgrown with the growing intake of children and widows.
"Freedom Rise" is the vision of Pastor John and Priscilla to build a new and bigger orphanage (which is nearly complete), a school and widows skills training centre, ICT Centre, a piggery and farm for growing crops and a church. They have been blessed with a beautiful elevated lot of over 21 acres of land that has been purchased in the village of Topiase/Fianko, which we were able to visit while we were there.
The vision is to house 200 orphans, educate over 300 students from neighbouring villages and train over 300 widows. The widows and orphans will receive support through education, training and basic care - including food, clothing, housing and medical assistance. The widows will learn trades like producing liquid soap and sanitiser, sewing, weaving etc. to help them raise money and build their own businesses for income. Pastor John has already overseen the building of a large piggery to raise and sell pigs to help with the ongoing costs at the new site. They have also started planting cassavas and plantains at the farm at Freedom Rise to help feed the children and widows.
Our focus right now is to build a school for the children at "Freedom Rise". It will take AU$60,000 to complete. John has received a quote from a builder and the plans have been completed. It will have 6 classrooms a storeroom and an office. The whole building will be 55m long and 7m wide. The donations will go directly to Pastor John to pay for the trades and materials and he will be forwarding on photos of the building as it is built. We will provide updates, photos and videos on this web page. An education for these beautiful kids is so important for their futures.
It is only through the grace of God that this will be achieved. It is a big vision and one that is totally impossible without Him and through the generous hearts of people like yourselves. We ask that you keep praying for Freedom Rise, for God to bless the land, for the Word of God to be continued to be taught to the children and widows and for the love of our Lord Jesus Christ to spread over the surrounding villages, for "Freedom Rise" to be a light on the top of a hill.
We are looking at doing all sorts of fundraising to raise funds for the school so that when it is finished we can finish building the new orphanage "Freedom House" on the new site, and move the children over from the Doryumu site.
If you would like to raise funds yourselves or want to see the products that we will have for sale in the future please contact Matt in the above right panel.
Again thank you in advance for your generosity, all of the donations made through this site will be helping to change the lives of many women and children in Ghana and "Freedom Rise" will be one step closer to completion. Please feel free to subscribe to updates below, to keep up to date with the building.
God bless you.
