Freedom Unshackled Annual Fundraising Event
In the 20 months since it’s formation, The Freedom Unshackled Coalition has become a registered not-for-profit organization in New York State. We meet regularly to plan and hold rallies, information events, protests, press opportunities, and to talk with people. We have developed relationships with the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, Albany City Mayor’s Office, and have been watching with interest the changes that are occurring in the governor’s office.
Now, a meeting of concern to the rights of incarcerated citizens rarely takes place without The Freedom Unshackled Coalition at the table. We collaborate regularly with other organizations to achieve needed reform to the criminal justice system. During our first year, Freedom Unshackled has proven itself to be a valuable asset to our community.
We launched our #Clemency4xY campaign, which pressures New York State to keep its promises of clemency for eligible incarcerated citizens.
We launched two national campaigns:
▪ One to gain independent oversight regarding reporting of sexual assaults against correctional facility populations -- civilian and staff.
▪ Another to address the fact that incarcerated people do real, needed jobs in prisons that are created by lucrative contracts; yet they are paid extremely low wages. Also, no evidence exists to verify their work experience. In a post-release job search, there is no documentation to support their work history or list marketable qualifications.

We could not have done any of this without your help, and we are now launching this new fundraiser to keep going and growing. In the coming year, we expect more rallies, larger crowds, and to make more noise. We will continue to grow our existing campaigns, and create new opportunities for needed change.
