My name is Karen Houge, and Im a Norwegian actor who has been working closely with Freedom Theatre in the West Bank the last year.

The Freedom Theatre is one of the West Bank’s leading theatre schools and cultural centres for children, young people, and adults living under occupation, fear, and insecurity. They use art as a form of resistance to the occupation - instead of weapons.

Recently Freedom Theatre lost their main sponsor from the United Kingdom, because the sponsor wanted the theatre to comply with Israeli demands that it no longer portray themself and tell theirs stories, but only play animals. The Freedom Theatre refused to accept this, and as a result lost the funding.

Now the summer is coming, and theatre runs summer camps for over 60 children and teenagers who are from Jenin Refugee camp. But without their main funder, its hard to keep the classes free for the participators, and still pay rent for the theatre, electricity and some of the salary for the teachers.

The money from this fundraiser will go direct to these three points.
